Iceland Itinerary

When traveling to a new destination, I know how overwhelming it can be to plan an itinerary. That’s why I wanted to share with you an outline of how I spent my time in Iceland. Please feel free to use this as a guideline and refer to my specific blog posts for more details. Day #1
Depart BWI on WOW Airlines for an overnight 6 hour flight

Day #2
Arrive Reykjavik very early in the morning
Explore Reykjavik
Dinner at Sægreifinn
Overnight: Reykjavik

Day #3
I Don’t Speak Icelandic
4WD tour to Lanmannalaugar in the Central Highlands
9-10 hour day with Mountain Taxi
Overnight: Reykjavik

Day #4
Golden Circle
Pick up 4WD rental vehicle
Golden Circle highlights: Þingvellir, Geysir and Gullfoss
Drive up to the Westfjords
Overnight: north of Búðardalur

Day #5
Journey into the Westfjords
Explore the Westfjords
Dinner reservations at Tjöruhúsið
Overnight: Ísafjörður

Rauðasandur pink sand beach

Day #6
A Horse Named Little Boat
Icelandic horseback riding in Þingeyri with West Tours for 2 hours
Explore the Westfjords
Dynjandi waterfall
Rauðasandur pink sand beach
Látrabjarg bird cliffs
Overnight: Patreksfjörður

Day #7
Drive from the Westfjords to the Snaefellness Peninsula
Snæfellsjökull National Park
Djúpalónssandur beach

Inside the Volcano
Drive from the Snaefellness Peninsula to Reykjavik

That concludes the itinerary my mom and I used as she flew home from here and my two best friends flew in to join me the following day. You could enjoy Iceland and see a lot in that 1 week, or stay longer to explore the Ring Road.

Commence Ring Road in counterclockwise direction
Stop for bread baked in the ground near the Reykjadalur Hot Spring Thermal River
Overnight: near Hella

Wet ‘round Here
Seljavallalaug hot pot
Solheimajokull glacier
Solheimasandur WWII plane wreck
Overnight: near Hof

Day #13
Fjaðrárgljúfur canyon

Our day got rained out, but my notes tell me that we wanted to visit:
Fólkvangur Neskaupstaðar Nature Preserve
Borgarfjörður Eystri which has great hiking and is a good place to see a puffin up close

Early morning drive from Akureyri
Into the Glacier tour for 2.5 hours

Enjoy Reykjavik’s nightlife

Fly out of Reykjavik on WOW Airlines in the afternoon
Arrive BWI in the evening
