The weather has continued to decline, so there was no better way to spend a cold and damp day than touring the local Speight’s brewery. The site was under renovations to update the facilities and meet new laws that require all commercial building structures to meet earthquake standards. I was looking forward to comparing the yeast smells to that of an American Budweiser brewery tour like we use to enjoy at Busch Gardens in Williamsburg, VA, but alas, I had to use my imagination. The best part was obviously the end when we got to sample all of the beers. I learned that smell is almost half of taste, so you should therefore never drink beer from a bottle. Our tour guide let us loose in the bar to pour our own samples, and it kicked off a great evening out with new friends. I quite enjoyed the Speight’s chocolate stout brewed with actual Cadbury chocolate buttons. Cheers!
